River Cauvery is a natural habitat of the Mahseer fish. Mahseer is the finest game fish in the world. This explains why the world-class anglers throng the Cauvery Fishing Camp. The Mahseer attracts anglers from as far as U.K, Malaysia and the U.S.A. Mahseer boasts of being the supreme freshwater fish, know as the hardest fighting species on the planet. According to the tinge on the scales and the fins, you will be able to spot the silver, golden, black and pink Mahseer.

There are two species of Mahseer that you may spot at the Cauvery Fishing Camp, namely, the Tor Khudree and Tor Mussullah. At the camp you will be able to spot the common fish, carp, catfish and the crocodiles easily. But the prime attraction at the Fishing Camp remains the Mahseer the largest tropical sporting river fish known to man. There have been instances when Mahseer as heavy as 120 lbs.

While at the camp you may indulge in trekking too. The adventure seekers usually opt for the trek to the 4000 feet high Basavanna betta. Else there are several other forest trails to be followed and hill tops to be scaled.

Cauvery Fishing Camp - Fishing Techniques

For the top-of-the-world experience of catching the Mahseer Angling rods of different sizes are available. Many of the rods have been imported from Sweden and the US. There are different reels, lines, lures and hooks used for Mahseer fishing and fly-fishing.

You can reach the Cauvery Fishing Camp easily. Bheemeshwari is at a distance of hundred km from Bangalore via Kanakapura / Halagur. You may cover this distance by road. You may hire a taxi from Bangalore and within two hours reach your green destination. From Mysore via Malavalli the fishing camp is eighty-five km away. From the hill resort of Ooty the fishing camps are 245 km away via Mysore.

The nearest airport as well as the railway station to the Cauvery Fishing Camps happens to be at Bangalore, hundred km away.

Cauvery Fishing Camp - Best Time to Visit

For the nature lovers and eco-tourists the best time to visit the Cauvery Fishing Camp at Bheemeshwari is throughout the year. The period from November to June is ideal for anglers and fisherman to visit the Cauvery Fishing Camp.

Accommodation is not an issue at the Cauvery Fishing Camp. There are Jungle Lodges and Resorts that cater to the needs of the adventurers and the other tourists at the fishing camp. All the basic facilities to make your stay comfortable are offered. Just in case you are looking for your stay too then you may opt for the tented camps. Even the camps are comfortable to stay at the Fishing camp. Then there are as many as six living quarters with attached baths that are available. The stay in the log huts and the tented cottages adds to the charm of the fishing camp.

Your adventure filled holiday is complete with delicious Indian cuisine. You may opt for vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.

Cauvery Fishing Camp - Travel Information

There are coracle boat rides and open jeep safaris also available for adventure. A coracle boat ride is a unique boating experience in a buffalo-hide covered round country boat. Though the best way to enjoy the camps remains exploration on foot.

It is noteworthy that you cannot walk away with your catch. You may take it your prized catch, weigh it, click a picture or two but finally leave it back in the waters. The "Catch and release" system needs to be supported for conservation of the Mahseer.
